Olivia Mazzorato, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Olivia Mazzorato has adored the company of pets ever since she was a little girl, but she started to fall in love with the science and medicine behind veterinary care during her high school and university years. When she secured a part-time job as a Kennel Attendant, it sealed her fate—Dr. Mazzorato knew that she was destined to work with animals professionally! Now, she’s proud to care for pets on a daily basis as a member of the veterinary team here at Heartland Niagara Animal Hospital.
Dr. Mazzorato hails from Burlington, Ontario, and earned her undergraduate degree in life sciences from McMaster University in 2014. She started volunteering at a local veterinary hospital and was hired a short time later, and then started volunteering at an equine referral hospital and at the Bat Lap at McMaster University, where she cared for the school’s colony of brown bats.
A year after completing her undergraduate degree, Dr. Mazzorato gained acceptance to Ontario Veterinary College. She graduated in 2020 and immediately started working at Heartland Niagara Animal Hospital, having completed a one-week placement during her final year of veterinary schooling. She knew that it was the perfect place to launch her career as a veterinarian! Dr. Mazzorato brings with her special interests in preventative medicine, neurology, and internal medicine.
Dr. Mazzorato’s interests outside of veterinary medicine include hiking, playing the guitar, playing hockey, baking, and traveling. She’s been to South Africa and Namibia with Global Vets and even took part in a rhinoceros anti-poaching project on the Ithala Game Reserve in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr. Mazzorato also lived on a boat in the Peruvian Amazon for two months! At home, she shares her life with one pet: a Bernese Mountain Dog mix rescued from a high-kill shelter in North Carolina who spends most of his time relaxing on one of his many beds around the house.
