Laser therapy has been used in human medicine for decades now as a drug-free, non-invasive way to treat a wide variety of ailments. Now, this same innovative technology can be used to improve the quality of life for our animal companions. In our ongoing commitment to provide the most up to date treatment options available, Heartland Niagara Animal Hospital is pleased to offer laser therapy to help our clients better manage the health of their animal family members.

What is laser therapy?

The practice of laser therapy involves the use of a small, handheld device which emits a high-intensity beam of light (laser). The laser painlessly targets areas of the body that have suffered trauma or are just experiencing pain, such as surgical wounds, pulled muscles, sprains or strains or other injuries. The therapeutic laser has been proven to be highly effective in reducing pain, improving mobility and speeding healing following surgery or injury.

What can laser therapy be used to treat?

The list of ailments that respond well to the therapeutic laser seems to grow almost daily. As of now, we can use laser therapy to effectively treat and manage all of the following, and much more:

  • Arthritis
  • Sprains/Strains
  • Ligament and Tendon Injuries
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Post Surgical Healing
  • Rehabilitation
  • Dental Conditions
  • Dermatological Disorders
  • Acute and Chronic Pain

How many treatments will my pet need?

There’s no specific treatment protocol to suit every animal. The number of laser treatments required to achieve optimum results will depend on what condition your pet is being treated for, its severity and a number of other unique factors. The doctor will be able to provide you with an individualized treatment recommendation once your pet has been evaluated.

If your loved one suffers from any of the above conditions, recently underwent surgery or suffered an injury, laser therapy may be just the thing to provide them with the relief they need. Let us help your animal friend live a happier, more comfortable life.
