No loving parent ever wants to imagine their baby experiencing a medical emergency, regardless of what species that baby happens to be. Unfortunately, pet emergencies happen all the time, and they usually occur when we least expect them. The most important thing is knowing to whom you can turn in your time of need. Heartland Niagara Animal Hospital is equipped to provide emergency and critical care services when your pet is in distress.

Our team is experienced in delivering urgent medical, diagnostic and surgical care and is prepared to step in at a moment’s notice. We can manage even the most critical situations with swiftness and efficiency, improving the chances of a positive outcome.

Some of the more common pet emergencies include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Broken bones
  • Cuts, puncture wounds or lacerations
  • Diarrhea or vomiting that lasts longer than 24 hours or contains blood
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Ingestion or a toxic substance or foreign object
  • Trauma or accident (such as a fall or being struck by a vehicle)
  • Disorientation
  • Seizures
  • Unconsciousness
  • Heatstroke

If any of these things occur, give us a call immediately. Calling ahead is always recommended because it allows us to assess the situation, provide advice on first aid that you can administer in the interim, and prepare the hospital for your pet’s arrival.

We sincerely hope you’ll never face the need for urgent veterinary care, but we hope you’ll find it comforting to know that if and when the need arises, you can count on us to be there for you .
