7 Reasons To Adopt A Rescued Rabbit

February is Adopt A Rescued Bunny Month! If you’ve been considering getting a rabbit, this is the perfect time! Here, a Thorold, ON vet lists some great reasons to consider adopting a rescued bunny.

They’re Quiet

Floppy doesn’t make much noise, so you won’t have to worry about your neighbor complaining that your pet is too loud. This makes bunnies a great option for people who live in apartments.

They Don’t Need Walks

Another great thing about bunnies is the fact that they don’t need to be walked. You’ll never have to rush home to let Floppy out!

They’re Trainable

Did you know that bunnies can be trained to use a litterbox? They can also learn some basic petiquette, such as what is and isn’t okay for them to chew on. (Of course, Floppy often tends to train her humans, but that’s another topic.)

They’re Adorable

Bunnies are almost impossibly cute. Their adorable furry faces, soft ears, and pretty fur can really melt hearts!

They’re Hilarious

Rabbits are really fun and playful. Floppy’s silly antics can be highly entertaining to watch. Don’t let that innocent face fool you, though. Bunnies have loads of personality, and can actually be quite mischievous!

Binkies!

It’s common knowledge that Fido wags his tail when he’s happy, and Fluffy purrs. Floppy also has a special trick: the binky. A binky is basically a little dance/hop rabbits do when they’re feeling cheerful. And yes, it’s as cute as it sounds.

They Need Love Too

Sadly, many rabbits are rehomed at least once in their lifetimes. This is very unfortunate, because Floppy gets very attached to her humans. This often happens because people buy rabbits on impulse, not knowing what they’re getting into. Giving one of these cute little furballs a second chance can be a wonderful and rewarding act of kindness.

Tips

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment, so make sure that you are ready, willing, and able to care for Floppy for the rest of her life. That could be 12 years or even longer! Also, do plenty of research. Bunnies aren’t perfect: they do chew a lot, and can be rather stubborn. They also need lots of attention and free time, as well as great care.
