Respect Your Cat Day

March 15, 2018

Did you know that March 28th is Respect Your Cat Day? How do you show your feline pal respect? By keeping Fluffy healthy, happy, and safe! Cats are very easy keepers, but it can be easy to forget that they do have some specific needs. Read on as a Thorold, ON vet lists some ways to respect your kitty.

Entertainment

Kitties are very sleepy, but even the drowsiest feline can’t nap all the time. Fluffy will need some ways to occupy herself when she is actually awake. Provide your furball with plenty of fun toys, and take time to play with her regularly. This will be great for your cat, both physically and mentally. It will be fun for you, too!

Veterinary Care

Proper veterinary care is very important! Many of our feline patients don’t see us as much as they should. We recommend that all kitties be microchipped, spayed or neutered, and kept current on exams, vaccinations, and parasite control. At home, keep an eye out for anything that could be indicative of sickness, such as hiding, poor grooming, or litterbox issues. Call your vet immediately if you notice anything unusual.

Kitty Comforts

Offer Fluffy some things that will suit her needs. Cat towers are great, as they provide our furry pals with manicure stations, jungle gyms, and lookout spots, all in one. Your furball will also appreciate some comfy beds and napping spots. A good scratching post is also a must.

Hiding Places

Cats may have big purrsonalities, but at the end of the day, they are really very small, and can easily get frightened. Loud noises, commotion, strangers, and other pets are just a few things that can make Fluffy feel uneasy. Make sure your kitty has plenty of hiding places to retreat to if she feels scared or anxious.

Clean Litterbox

Make sure to keep your furball’s personal powder room nice and clean. We recommend scooping daily, and cleaning it more thoroughly about once a week. Cats hate dirty bathrooms, and who can blame them?

Love

Keep your feline buddy’s little motor going by making sure she feels loved, safe, and secure. Talk to Fluffy, pet her, play with her, and let her snuggle with you when she wants.
