Keeping Your Kitty Happy and Healthy

Did you know that 38% of Canadian households have kitties? There are certainly some very good reasons that cats are so popular. After all, kitties are clean, cute, and, of course, absolutely adorable. The fact that they are so easy to care for is another big plus: food, litter, and proper veterinary care will cover Fluffy’s basic needs. However, our feline friends aren’t quite as independent as they act. Here, a Thorold, ON vet discusses keeping cats happy and healthy.

    Good Food

Proper nutrition is a cornerstone of any good pet care regimen. Offer Fluffy premium, nutritious food, but don’t go overboard with fatty snacks. Ask your vet for specific advice.

    Kitty Comforts

It’s actually very easy to turn your home into a luxury mansion for kitties. Offer Fluffy lots of comfy beds and napping spots, and at least one good window view. Your pet will also appreciate having toys to pounce on, and some pet furniture, such as a cat tower or a kitty condo. If you really want to pamper your furball, turn a sunroom or patio into a catio.

    Playtime

There’s no denying that playing is lots of fun for cats. It’s also great for them! Pouncing and jumping help keep kitties in shape physically. Playing also offers Fluffy beneficial mental stimulation. After all, your feline pal has to really focus to time those tricky pounces and jumps just right! Spend a few minutes a day playing with your cat.

    Proper Facilities

One of the best things about cats is the fact that they will use litterboxes to discreetly do their business. Keep Fluffy’s powder room nice and clean by scooping it daily and changing the litter every week.

    Indoor Life

Although Fluffy may love fun outdoor sports, such as rolling around in the grass and leaving paw prints on your car, she will be both safer and healthier living inside. As soon as your kitty sets those cute little paws outside the door, she is exposed to serious dangers posed by cars, predators, weather, and other hazards.

    Purrs and Snuggles

In order for Fluffy to be truly content, she needs to feel loved, safe, and perhaps a bit pampered. Spend time with your kitty every day. After all, time spent with cats is never wasted!
